The Trade-Mart Dundee Stars host Fife Flyers tonight in the Tayside Derby as they look to get their Challenge Cup campaign back on track with a victory over their biggest rivals.

The Stars face their oldest foes tonight for the third time in a competitive setting this season and so far both teams remain undefeated at home against each other, with Dundee claiming a 3-2 victory after a shootout in the first game.

Domenic Alberga and Kameron Kielly had both found a way past Shane Owen in the Fife net during regulation but Autin Farley was able to keep the Flyers level after 60 minutes with his two strikes, before Keanu Yamamoto scored the winning penalty shot to give Marc LeFebvre’s men the extra point.

Then three weeks ago in Kirkcaldy, Zach Tsekos would have the Stars 1-0 ahead after the first period but Fife would score four unanswered goals to take the win, with Daniel Krenzelok (2), Drake Pilon and Phelix Martineau all on the scoresheet for Tom Coolen’s side.

Now Dundee sit bottom of Group B in the Cup and tied on five points with the Flyers, who have six games compared to Dundee’s eight.

Therefore a victory is a must to keep their slim hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage alive, whilst the Flyers aim to close the gap to Glasgow Clan who are four points ahead in second.

Discussing this weekend’s matches, Stars Head Coach, Marc LeFebvre said: “We know we need points in the cup and a win if we want to make it to the next round but we really need a victory to keep us going.

“Winning two in the last three would be something we can build off and we are trying to build some momentum here and some positivity, so we will need all hands on deck tonight.

“We know this will be a good challenge because they will want to get a result to get themselves going in the right direction as well and especially with it being a rivalry game, we expect it to be a tough contest.”

Face-off for tonight’s home game is at 7:30pm.
