The Trade-Mart Dundee Stars complete their preseason preparations tonight with a second challenge match against the University of Quebec Trois-Riviere Patriotes and they are searching for a response to the defeat by the Canadians in their first encounter.

This will be the fourth and final game of Marc LeFebvre’s preseason camp as the Stars search for a third win in two weeks, but also must find a way to bounce back from the 4-1 loss to the Patriotes on Thursday night.

The Canadian side took a first period lead through Felix Lafrance before Charles Beaudoin doubled their advantage in the second session and Ludovic Soucy sent the Patriotes into the final period 3-0 up, as they punished the Stars for some defensive errors.

Dundee would finally find a way past goalkeeper, Charles-Antoine Lavallee in the 52nd minute as Domenic Alberga stepped out of the penalty box after the Stars completed a penalty kill and Brett Gravelle’s long pass put him in on goal, where Alberga applied the finish.

The Taysiders then gambled in the final minutes and called time out before emptying their net but that only allowed the Patriotes to seal the win as Connor Frenette shot into the gaping goal.

Reflecting on Thursday’s performance, Stars Head Coach, Marc LeFebvre said: “It is not about results for us, it is about getting ready except for when it is against Fife, those are a little bit different.

“It was a good test and it is fun to play different teams from different leagues, they run a very professional program over their and they are always competing for a national title.

“So, it was a good challenge for us and after the first 10 or 12 minutes, we woke up and stopped watching them play and got better as the game went along but it was more important for our conditioning than anything.”

Looking ahead to tonight’s second matchup, he continued: “For me, it is ore about ourselves and not worrying about them too much.

“We need to get ourselves ready for the real stuff starting next week but they are still a quality side and it is going to be another good challenge for us.”

Face-off for tonight’s home game is at 5pm.
