McBean has made a total of 124 appearances for the Stars over the past three years, scoring 12 goals and assisting on 13 more, whilst continuing to improve and develop each season.
Jonathan, who turned 21 last week, has so far recorded 13 points this season after scoring seven points (4G, 3A) in 12 Challenge Cup matches and a further six (3G, 3A) in league action.
LEFEBVRE ON MCBEAN
After signing McBean up for two more seasons as a Star, Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach, Marc LeFebvre said: “Jonny is the future of this club but not only that he is the future of this league and we want our Brits to exceed and give them every opportunity to.
“He has come on leaps and bounds since last season when I got here and he is earning his ice time, he has had a few chances on the powerplay this year, which he took advantage of and the future is bright for him.
“He is just a hard-working pro, he is learning and getting better every day and I look forward to seeing his progression in the next few years.”
MCBEAN ON HIS FUTURE
Speaking after signing his new deal, Jonathan said: “I am really happy to have the opportunity to play here for another couple of seasons, at the minimum and hopefully I just keep developing into the player that I know I can be.
“Growing up here in Dundee and watching the Stars, it makes the decision pretty easy but other than that, the people to learn from here are great, we always bring a good group of guys in and those who are signed up for next year like (Ben) O’Connor and (Drydn) Dow are so experienced and I cannot wait to keep working with them moving forward.
“Also with Marc signing his extension, I know I can keep learning from him and even this year he has given me a lot of opportunities throughout the lineup and also on the special teams, so I just want to keep working hard and improving to keep these opportunities coming.”
