FIFE FLYERS 3 TRADE-MART DUNDEE STARS 8
The Trade-Mart Dundee Stars sped into a huge lead in Kirkcaldy on Saturday night as they went on to beat Fife Flyers 8-3 and claim their eighth Tayside Derby win of the season.

The Stars stuck with goaltender Jarrett Fiske between the pipes and he would not have much to do in the first period as his side raced into a 5-0 lead after only 14 minutes, with Philippe Sanche firing low under Janis Voris in the Fife goal, to open the scoring after eight minutes.
Over the next six minutes, Kameron Kielly would then tuck the puck under the Latvian before Spencer Naas lifted home a third goal, which then sparked a quick-fire spell where Dundee netted three times in just 83 seconds.
Sanche would then tap home a rebound for his second of the night and Kielly also doubled up by using some fast hands to work the puck past Voris, when he was left all alone in front of the Fife goal.
The home team did hit back before the first break as in the 18th minute, Lucas Chiodo tapped in the rebound from Michael Cichy’s effort which had been saved by Fiske.
Marc LeFebvre’s men would then be held off the scoresheet in the second period after Shane Owen was subbed in for Voris, meanwhile the Flyers pulled another back with Ryan Foss beating the American goaltender to finish off a Fife counter-attack on 34 minutes.
In the third period, Dundee then rediscovered their scoring form as Naas became the third player to net his brace with a well worked move that saw him pivot from a face-off, straight across the slot and blast a first-time pass from Ben O’Connor into the back of the home team’s net.
Owen was beaten for the first time on 45 minutes but just 38 seconds later, Johnny Curran’s side made it 6-3 as Patrick Kyte lifted a loose puck into the roof of the Dundee net, although that would be as close as the Flyers got.
The Stars would strike twice in the 54th minute to polish off a fine performance as Zach Tsekos rushed forward and deked the puck past Owen before captain, Drydn Dow saw his long-range effort float into the back of the net.
Despite winning both points in Kirkcaldy, Dundee remain in eighth spot in the league table as Glasgow Clan picked up both points on the road against Nottingham Panthers, however next weekend presents a huge opportunity for the Taysiders to move back in front of their Scottish rivals.
Friday night sees the Stars head south for a Valentine’s clash with Manchester Storm before they return home to welcome the Clan to Dundee for their second last meeting of the regular season.
