The Dundee Stars first ever game started with a bang, as both teams came out of the starting blocks at 100 miles per hour. Both sets of players had something to prove and this “friendly” was the ideal place to do it.
After an exciting but scoreless first period, Ayr stormed into the lead with a close in shot from Shawn Byram assisted by Mike Harding at 25.05. The Stars came fighting back and equalised just 29 seconds later through Paddi Lochi, assisted by player coach Tony Hand and Teeder Wynne.
Four minutes later Dino Bauba would fire the Eagles back into the lead with an unstoppable shot. The goalies then took over, with hometown hero Stephen Murphy showing his international class against former Edmonton Oiler goalie Joaquin Gage.
However against the run of play, Ayr extended their lead with Mike Harding’s quick shot making it 3-1 Eagles, just before the end of the 2nd period
The Stars came out fired up for the 3rd period and immediately applied heavy pressure to the Ayr net. They were rewarded at 44.12 when Teeder Wynne scored against his old club with a superb goal assisted by Paddi Lochi and Tony Hand.
The Stars pushed hard for the equaliser but thanks to a superb display by Gage, the Stars just couldn’t find the equaliser.
So in our first game we ran a very creditable second to the Ayr Scottish Eagles from the Superleague.
Final Score Ayr Scottish Eagles 3 -2 Dundee Stars
