The Trade-Mart Dundee Stars claimed their first victory of the season over Sheffield Steelers last night as they won 4-2 in Yorkshire to make it a three-point weekend for the Taysiders.

The Stars caused an upset against the reigning Elite League treble holders and took the lead just six minutes into the game as Philippe Sanche turned Brett Gravelle’s pass into the top corner of the Steelers net via his skate.

Dundee would still be leading 1-0 at the first break and soon doubled their lead as Brandon Whistle was penalised for a hooking foul, allowing Cole MacDonald to convert on the powerplay with a quick finish into the top corner on 25 minutes.

Shortly after, the home team finally produced a response as Marc-Olivier Vallerand would punish the Stars for a mistake as he converted on the breakaway against Jarrett Fiske, inside 32 minutes and shot straight past the American goalie.

Domenic Alberga would then restore Dundee’s two-goal lead less than a minute later as he fired home Brendan Harms’ pass from close range, slotting the puck underneath the legs of Marco De Filippo.
