The Stars continued to be only one player down as Dundonian defender, Kris Inglis remained out through injury and they went into the Spectrum Arena up against a similar Flames side from last night, who made only one change as Eamon McAdam returned to the starting role between the pipes.
Guildford opened up a 2-0 lead in Dundee yesterday but took 21 minutes to do so, but this time it took less than five minutes as Peter Crinella tapped in a rebound after only 84 seconds of play to lift the home crowd and then three minutes later, defenseman Kyle Locke made a move down to the backpost and turned home Brett Ferguson’s pass.
The Flames had a few more chances but as penalties began to be called, the Stars began to get their feet under them and find a way back into the match.
After back to back powerplays, the Tayside team finally broke through and beat McAdam after he made some spectacular stops during heavy spells of pressure, but Josh Brittain would smack home the second chance from Anthony Rinaldi’s saved attempt.
The hosts held their one-goal advantage until the first intermission but in the second period, both sides would have a number of chances to score the crucial next goal and it eventually came on the halfway-mark as Ryan Valentini slung his effort from between the face-off circles in via the underside of Guildford crossbar, to make it 2-2.
The Stars could have snuck into the lead before the next break, like they did on home ice but the two teams would still be tied heading into the third period and the final session of regulation would provide two more goals.
