The Trade-Mart Dundee Stars face Cardiff Devils on home ice tonight and are searching for their first victory of the season over the Welsh side.

The Stars are trying to arrest their poor run of form as their winless streak extended to six games with a 7-1 loss in Coventry against the Blaze last night.

Alessio Luciani opened the scoring inside nine minutes before Dundee defenceman, Cole MacDonald tied the game on 12 minutes with a shot into the top right corner of Mat Robson’s net.

The home team would then score twice in the opening four minutes of the second period to take 3-1 lead as Luciani and Nick Seitz fired past Richard Sabol.

Chase Gresock and Zach Heintz then added Coventry’s fourth and fifth goals in the 31st and 39th minute respectively, leaving Dundee four goals behind heading to the third period.

Kim Tallberg and Terrance Amorosa would be the only scorers in the final frame as they moved the Blaze 7-1 ahead inside 56 minutes and 58 minutes.

Meanwhile, Pete Russell’s Devils were beaten 4-3 by Manchester Storm last night as let a 3-1 lead after the first period slide, as the Storm pulled back a powerplay goal in each period and then Joe Morrow would win it the shootout for the Altrincham outfit.

Cardiff have claimed two wins from two so far against Dundee, scoring six on both occasions but only giving up five goals in total across the pair of matches.

A 6-1 loss in Cardiff was followed by a 6-4 defeat on home ice for the Stars but tomorrow night, Marc LeFebvre is hoping he can get his first win over the Welsh club in two seasons.

Discussing tonight’s visit from Cardiff, Stars Head Coach, Marc LeFebvre said: “If we are going to win anything this year then Cardiff is one of the teams we will need to find a way to beat and that said, it could be a two-legged playoff game or a one-off semi-final or final, but we need to find a way to beat them and we have not beat those guys since I have been here.

“There have been some good quality games against them but we have fallen short each time, so we need to find a way but they are an excellent team, who have lots of depth and can run four solid lines, with a steady defence and good goaltending.

“However that does not mean that they cannot be beaten, we just have to find a way and play our game but we need everybody to step up, myself included.

“Everybody has to buy-in to get this thing back on track and there is a long way to go in the season but there is no better time to start than right now before Christmas.”

Face-off for tonight’s home game against Cardiff is at 5pm.
