The 21-year-old shot-stopper has made five starts for the Stars in the last few weeks after Canadian, Kevin Carr was ruled out through injury and since making his first start between the pipes against Guildford, he has grown from game-to-game.
Lucas got his first taste of Elite League action in mid-game appearances against Sheffield and Nottingham but has now played over 320 minutes with his development continuing minute-by-minute.
Reflecting on the last few weeks and his first start in the Elite League, Lucas said: “I have felt pretty comfortable out there.
“It could a little bit better and I felt a bit unlucky with some bad bounces, but I have enjoyed it and it has been a good experience to get my first proper minutes in the Elite League.
“I practice with the guys every day so I feel like my game speed was already at that level and we definitely played some good teams like Belfast and Cardiff.
“So, I thought I did well for myself and all the guys have been really supportive, so I could not really ask for much more.”
With the opportunity to still gain more ice time during the rest of the season, Brine continued: “Any chance I get to go in, I will give it my all and try my best for the guys, and whenever I get in, I will try and step up to the plate.”
Lucas also discussed the support he received from Head Coach, Marc LeFebvre, adding: “Marc has been very supportive, he tells me how much confidence he has in me and so do the rest of the guys.
“He has definitely been a good support system for me in the past couple of weeks and I am very grateful for that.”
Discussing how pleased he has been with Lucas’ development, LeFebvre then said: “He has been put into a tough situation over the last few weeks and he is still developing as a young goaltender, but it is good for him to get some minutes here and he has been able to give us a chance to win.
“It is just about development for Lucas, going from game to game and practice by practice and making sure he is playing with at the highest level.
“The key thing for him is just to simply keep getting better every day and so when he is called upon, he is ready and if he going to be a future starter for Team GB then he has to just keep developing every day.”
