The giant Canadian blueliner is making his European debut this season and he is eager to see what he and the rest of the team can achieve this year, as the Stars go in hunt of silverware, but first they must challenge themselves to take on two historic European opponents.
Sharing his impressions on life in Dundee so far, Chris said: “It has been awesome, it is a bit of a change from Canada but I am happy to be here and we have a really good group of guys, so I am excited to get the season going.
“Last weekend was not entirely great; the Sunday game was not ideal but I am looking to bounce back and I think we will bounce back as a team.”
Looking ahead to this weekend’s games, he continued: “It has been a really good week of practice, guys have been working hard and are really dialled in so I am excited to see how we fair against other teams from other leagues.”
“We just want to play as close to a 60-minute game as possible and get in the habit of playing the right way at all times.”
With the team still getting used to the new systems and for many players, still getting used to the Elite League itself, McKay explained how the team want to improve their discipline record this weekend.
He commented: “Going from North American hockey to European hockey, I think there is a little bit of a difference in the way penalties are called, so that is just a little bit of adjustment that we are still getting used to and we are definitely trying to minimise the number of penalties this weekend.”
Finally, with competitive action less than a week away, 27-year-old, McKay is also raring to get stuck into the Challenge Cup against Belfast Giants next Friday.
He explained: “We are getting excited for that one now, Belfast are a good team and I have some buddies on that team, so I am looking forward to seeing how we can do against them and hopefully start the season off with a big win.”
