The 27-year-old attacker, joins the club from ECHL outfit, Maine Mariners where he posted 18 points (7G, 11A) from 20 appearances after being traded in March by Wheeling Nailers and priorly in 58 games for the West Virginia side, he tallied 35 points (11G, 24A).
Born in Gimli, Manitoba, Johnson has been playing professional hockey for two seasons as he made his pro debut in the ECHL with Wichita Thunder in the 2021-2022 season and in his rookie year, the Canadian totalled 45 points (16G, 29A) through 69 games.
It was then at the start of the 2022-2023 campaign that the 6-foot-3-inch-tall forward was traded from Wichita to Wheeling, before being moved to Maine late in the season to help the Mariners down the final stretch of the regular season and into the Kelly Cup Playoffs, where he added three goals and two assists across six matches.
Weighing in at 201lbs and shooting on his left, Johnson also spent four years playing in the NCAA with Miami University of Ohio and iced on 92 occasions for the Redhawks.
Before committing to playing college hockey in 2016, Carter grew up playing his way through the Manitoba junior leagues, first of all with Interlake Lightning U18 AAA for two seasons, before progressing on to Swan Valley Stampeders of the MJHL, where he was named to the league’s All-Rookie Team in 2013-2014 after recording 39 points (22G, 21A) in 60 matches.
After a 45-point season with the Stampeders in 2014-2015, Johnson then joined North American Hockey League side, Corpus Christi Ice Rays and posted 37 points (16G, 21A) in 59 games, which would earn him the chance to move into NCAA the following year.
LEFEBVRE ON JOHNSON
After adding the 7th forward to his roster, Stars Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach, Marc LeFebvre, said: “Carter is a big winger, that can play hard down low, make plays down the ice and he skates very well for a big man like that, so we are looking forward to having him.
“The way he skates, should translate well onto the bigger ice in Europe and obviously everyone wants to improve their game day in day out to help the team and he is no different.”
After not icing in the COVID-19 halted season, Johnson hit the ground running in his first two seasons of professional hockey and LeFebvre added: “The pandemic year was a weird year but he came back strong, he had two great seasons in the ECHL and we are looking forward to him bringing that to Dundee.
“We are bringing him in to be a top six forward for us, if you look at his points in the last couple of seasons then we are expecting to see the same from him this year.”
