Garrigan has put pen to paper for another season and will remain with his boyhood club for a fifth season, where he has grown and developed every year, since arriving in the summer of 2018.
The 25-year-old now has 231 Elite League appearances to his name and also featured 13 times for Nottingham Panthers before collecting a winners medal in the 2020/2021 Elite Series.
Garrigan returned to Scotland four years ago to begin his professional career with his boyhood club and has been a mainstay in the team ever since.
LEFEBVRE ON GARRIGAN
Once Garrigan’s extension was confirmed, Stars Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach, Marc LeFebvre, said: “Well I am very excited to get Craig back, he has been a fabric of the franchise here for the last five seasons and he was a big part of that semi-final team that got to the playoff weekend, two seasons ago.
“He is a player who is developing into a veteran now, he is 25-years-old and we are expecting big things from him.”
With five British players confirmed on next year’s roster, LeFebvre continued: “It is important to me to have homegrown talent that has been around the club for a number of years and Craig is no different from Kris (Inglis), (Craig) Moore is back, who has been with the club before and Drydn (Dow) as well.
“So, it is important to have those players around, especially to help out with new players coming to the country and new players to the league, and it will make my job easier in terms of transitioning those guys.
“The homegrown players obviously know about those dog days, especially in January and February with this league and all the back-to-backs with long travel, and they can help those guys along the way, right from day one of training camp and teaching them the ropes of how this league goes.”
CRAIG ON CONTINUING WITH THE STARS
After signing his new deal to stay with the Stars, the winger who has been capped for Scotland and Great Britain at youth level, said: “I am over the moon to be back.
“It is so exciting to be here for another year and there is a reason that I keep coming back every year and that is that I absolutely love playing here and I am looking forward to the upcoming season and the new challenge.
“There has been a lot of change for this season but my first choice for this season was always going to be Dundee, I always wanted to comeback.
“Then with Marc coming in, I was not too sure what was going to happen, in terms of his plans and who he wanted coming back, so when he reached out to me, we had great chats right from the start and he told me I would be a part of his plans.”
With successful playoff runs still in the recent past, the Scottish forward will continue to use that as motivation again this season as he believes the Stars are capable of achieving anything.
Craig added: “It gives you a little bit of motivation after a disappointing season, I know what we are capable of achieving here after that season and it was a special moment.
“This season coming, we would like to finish as high as possible but making the playoffs is all that matters because once you are in, it is just four games and anything can happen.”
