The Stars ended 2022 on a high as they prevailed in overtime to beat Glasgow 3-2 and end the year in a playoff spot.
After falling 1-0 behind as Gary Haden fired the Clan ahead in the first period, Dundee replied in the second when Ben Sokay beat John Muse at his near-side post on a two-on-one rush.
Jeff Mason’s men then took the lead with just minutes remaining in the third session as defenseman, Colin Joe shot through a number of bodies before finding the back of the Clan net.
However, the home side would pull their netminder and convert with the man advantage to tie the game, as Haden scored again with only one minute left to play.
Overtime would not last long and after only 93 seconds, Sokay tucked home at the back post to give the Tayside team their first non-regulation win of the season.
Heading into tonight’s reverse fixture, the Stars are four points ahead of Glasgow and have played one less game, but also a point ahead of Fife Flyers, who have played two more game than Dundee.
Saturday’s game in Braehead was also the first time every player in the Stars squad was involved in a match this season, as forward, Hugo Reinhardt returned from his upper-body injury.
Looking ahead to tonight’s home game, Stars forward, Carter Folk said: “It is exciting and because of who we are playing, it makes it that bit more exciting.
“Glasgow are right by us in the standings and they are a team who we need to take points off to keep ourselves in a good position to make the playoffs.
“It is a big game and after that huge win in the last game, it would be great to start the New Year off with a win in front of our fans.”
The Canadian forward also described what it will take to secure another win over the Clan, adding: “It is all about us and being able to play the way we can, and being dialled in defensively, which as of late, there has been a bit more of a focus on and trying to keep the puck out of our net.
“We have had enough offensive to win games lately, but we just need to keep it clean at the other end and the focus on that will be big and we should be able to get the job done, if we can do that.”
