Heading into a weekend of both Challenge Cup and Elite League action, this weekend’s One to Watch is Swedish forward, Romans Semjonovs.

By Kris Smith

The 28-year-old winger joined the Stars this summer from the HockeyAllsvenskan league in Sweden, where he split the past year between two clubs, Tingsryds AIF and IF Troja-Ljungby, which also meant he played alongside, Anton Svensson and Hugo Reinhardt, last season.

Now, Semjonovs has come into Dundee and impressed with his consistent scoring form, as he has put up eight points (3G, 5A) in seven games and has recorded a point in every competitive match so far.

Romans has quickly become known for his sharp-shooting and heavy net front presence as he always lurks near the crease looking for rebounds.

Stars Head Coach, Jeff Mason has been pleased with the start Romans and his linemates have made to the season and he said: “That line has had a great start and Romans has had good chemistry with Elijiah (Barriga) and Phil (Sanche).

“He has a great shot and I know if he can get himself into scoring areas then he can definitely be dangerous and score some goals for us.

“Like I said, that line has had good chemistry and so far, they have produced throughout the preseason and Challenge Cup and I am happy with how those three have come together.”

You can watch Romans and the rest of the team live at the DIA this Sunday against Sheffield Steelers, get your tickets HERE.
