Dundee Stars moved a step closer to the play-offs after wins over Braehead Clan and Edinburgh Capitals.

Stars’ play-off hopes are still very much alive after scoring three powerplay goals in beating Braehead Clan 4-1 at home.

Cale Tanaka was first to find the net when his effort found its way past Gary Russell in the Clan goal as Dundee took the lead.

The Stars doubled their advantage early in the second when Vinny Scarsella sent a shot into the roof of the net as they opened a two-goal gulf.

But Cody Carlson got Braehead back into the game with a finish in the second before Alex Leavitt was ejected from the game for a charge on home captain Joey Sides.

Scarsella picked up his second of the game during the third period to reopen the two goal lead, but Clan then saw Jay Rosehill ejected for abuse of official.

Justin Faryna added Dundee’s fourth to effectively seal the points as they closed the gap to one point behind Manchester Storm.

FINAL: Dundee Stars 4-1 Braehead Clan

A brace from Mikael Lidhammar helped Dundee secure a 5-1 win in Edinburgh on Sunday night, moving the Stars past Manchester and in to a play-off spot.

Lidhammar opened the scoring after eleven minutes with Stars captain Joey Sides and Vinny Scarsella both scoring in the final three minutes of the period to make it 3-0 to the visitors before the first intermission.

A second power play goal for Lidhammar mid way through the second period further tightened Dundee’s grip on the game, before Kevin Hart put the Stars five up in the closing moments of the period with a short handed effort.

Taylor McDougall grabbed a consolation marker for the Capitals in the closing stages of the game, but the points were Dundee’s as the play-off race took another turn.

FINAL: Edinburgh Capitals 1-5 Dundee Stars
