The Trade-Mart Dundee Stars got off to a bad start and found themselves 7-1 down before a third period comeback attempt put the pressure on Glasgow Clan, who eventually took an 8-5 win.

The Stars had named an unchanged line-up from Wednesday’s loss to Guildford Flames with Kevin Carr, Craig Garrigan and Tommy Parrottino still sidelined through injury.

The match would not start the way Dundee had wanted as they fell behind inside the opening 80 seconds when Ryan Valentini turned over possession as he tried to exit his own end and Michael Pelech would be picked out by Philippe Sanche, for a high finish past Lucas Brine.

Despite the Stars creating lots of chances and testing Clan keeper, Antti Karjalainen for prolonged periods, they were soon put 2-0 down as Gary Haden converted a Glasgow counter-attack into another goal, with a low finish past Brine on seven minutes.

The Taysiders night then went from bad to worse as Jake Bolton extended the lead to 3-0 in the 12th minute, with another shot that was lifted over the shoulder of the Dundee keeper.

Jason Morgan’s men would not take their foot of the Stars’ throat and buried a fourth goal on the 16-minute mark as Matt Barry added his name to the scoresheet after Dundee failed to clear their own end.

The first period was a disaster for Dundee as they failed to make their large amounts of chances count and gave up four goals easily.

The second session did not start any better as the visitors again controlled the opening minutes and were not able to find a way past Karjalainen, before ex-Star, Sance broke down the ice and slotted home Glasgow’s fifth.
