Hey Stars fans,

It has been a while since my last Message From The GM, so here goes!

First things first, what a weekend for the guys!!!

As a group, we knew we had to get back on track in our pursuit of securing a playoff spot come the end of the regular season. The primary goal was to get the team healthy and prepared ahead of playing Sheffield. We’ve been playing with a lot of guys hurt for a while now. All teams have this issue at this time of year, but we don’t have the depth to sustain having guys out or playing injured. In saying that, I have to give full credit to all the guys, they showed amazing character and bounced back in great fashion against one of the most historic teams within the league. To beat Sheffield twice in a row is a great accomplishment for our club. The two games showed the full potential of our team and the work ethic was the best we have seen all season. On Saturday, it was a great road win where the team showed a hunger and desire to perform at a high level and to ultimately take the 2 points. Amazingly, it was the first road win in the history of the Stars in Sheffield. So to get that W was a truly great feeling and finally got the monkey off the clubs back.

On Sunday evening at The DIA, the night started off as an emotional one to say the very least. It was a great gesture from Matt Marquardt to read the tribute for Bronwyn Farquharson. It takes guts to stand up and speak in public, especially for a pro-athlete to do so just before a big game. Well done Matt, you did an amazing job. As a club, we are so thankful for the family in sharing Bronwyn’s story with us, we have maybe lost a special girl, but she will always be remembered here at the Dundee Stars. The tribute, the speech from Matt, the game and the atmosphere in the building will definitely be one that will not be soon forgotten.

Looking ahead to our next set of games, we have always preached about not getting too high with the highs or too low with the lows. Though in saying that, as a team we want to build on the weekend just gone and come with the exact same mindset and confidence this coming Friday when the Nottingham Panthers roll into Dundee.

We have a great night prepared for this Friday at the game, in what will be our first ever 80’s themed night. Full credit to Elliot Shaw for coming up with the idea and the creativity with the shirts too, they look very good I have to say. The pre-sales of tickets are already one of the best of the season, so it looks like it will be a very busy and exciting night. There will be a lot going on in the rink throughout the evening, so keep your ears and eyes open throughout the week for some further information on that front!

As you all know, we are now in a tight race for a playoff spot which has been a primary focus for us from the get-go this season. NOW is the time more than ever Stars fans to stand strong and get behind the team for the remainder of the regular season.

This Friday night we officially start our #PlayoffPush so we need to make these games at home a real fortress and drive the team on throughout every minute of every period of hockey. I am challenging our fan base to come in numbers and support our team, so if you haven’t already, get those tickets bought and bring along your friends, family and work colleagues and introduce them to the best sport on the planet!!

See you all Friday,
