Garrigan Extends Stay with Stars

The Kitmart Dundee Stars are delighted to announce the re-signing of local lad, Craig Garrigan for the 2019/20 campaign.

Craig returns for a second year with the organisation after impressing in his first professional season.
A product of the Stars youth system, Garrigan went on to have a four-year spell in North America prior to his return to Tayside.

Whilst playing a depth role for all of the last season, head coach Omar Pacha was keen to tie-up the young rookie for another campaign.
In his 68 appearances last year, Garrigan accumulated seven points, scoring three goals for Stars, including his first two professional goals in the vital 4-3 home win against the Nottingham Panthers in January.

The 21-year old also has international experience after leading the GB U20 side in the role of assistant captain during the 2017-18 World Junior Championships.

After signing the Dundonian rookie to another one-year deal, Pacha said:

“I think the main thing for me when reflecting on last season, was to see if Craig was going to improve and he did.

“He got better throughout the season and obviously he didn’t have as much ice time but that is just because at the start of the season, he was just not ready to play.

“He got opportunities to play when there were injuries and I think for the most part he did well.

“We are happy he is coming back and we are just hoping he takes another step in his progression.

“We like his potential, we like where he is going and we like his work ethic. But it is up to him to get better.

“I think he has a great skillset, he skates well, he has a good shot and he sees the ice well.

“For me, that was the main thing, he is a good Dundee guy, but he is one of those guys that has the potential to get even better next season.”

Garrigan is the second Brit to be signed up for next year and Pacha added:

“The main focus for these young Brits is to make sure they get better on a yearly basis. For us as a team, we want to be winning games and compete even higher than just a playoff spot so, you need those guys to step up as well.”

With his future secured for the next 12 months, Garrigan said: “I am happy to be signing back for a second year.

“In my first year I didn’t really know what to expect, it was a big step for me but I am happy to be back.

“This year I know what is expected and hopefully I just take that into this season and hit the ground running.

“I had so much fun last year, with it being my first professional season so, I didn’t really want to take any other options.

“I liked being in Dundee and being back home.

“I would be happy to stay here as long as I can but I am just happy to be back playing in Dundee again.”

Early bird season tickets are on sale NOW from the Dundee Ice Arena box office.

Craig is the third signing for the 2019/20 season and joins Drydn Dow and fellow Dundonian Jordan Cownie in next year’s squad.

Garrigan will again wear #15 for the Stars.
