Dundee Stars forward Jordan Cownie pulled in a hat-trick of awards during November as the team found their form late in the month.
The 23-year old was selected as the Elite League Player of the Week for November 25 and the EIHL also named him as the Player of the Month for November. Also, the Dundee Stars Official Supporters Club picked out the Dundee-born centreman as their Player of the Month.
Reflecting on a positive month for himself and his team, Cownie said: “It was nice, most importantly it was good to get the team back to winning ways.
“Picking up six wins out of seven was obviously huge for us and it builds us into a good position for the rest of the season but then to get recognised with a couple of awards was nice too.”
Cownie is grateful for the recognition he has received from the fans and the league.
He added: “It is always nice when you realise that the fans are getting behind you and supporting you but it helps being on a winning team as well, I mean you don’t really get noticed too much when you are on a losing team.
“I think that it helps that we had a big month in November/December, we are just looking to kick on from there.”
Dundee equalled a club record of six league victories in a row and it all started with back-to-back wins over their biggest rivals, Fife Flyers. Looking back on the two games where he scored a pair of goals, Cownie said: “It was huge, it is always good to contribute as well but I think that was the real kick-starting point in the season.
“We knew we had a big derby weekend against those guys and to sweep them two nights in a row was probably the kick-start we needed to get our season really going.”
Jordan is the first British player to be picked for the Elite League accolades this season and discussing how it feels to see British players receiving recognition, he stated: “As a British player you are kind of seen as the minority a little bit, but at the end of the day all the British lads are here for a reason, it is because they are good enough to play in this league.
“I am sure with GB going into the top pool as well it is only going to be good for British guys going forward here.”
Cownie and his teammates face a tough weekend as they play three away games, all in England. On Friday they face the Nottingham Panthers before taking on the Milton Keynes Lightning this Saturday and they finish their road trip in Coventry against the Blaze on Sunday.
