After falling 3-2 to the Flames in overtime on home ice, the Dundee Stars went into Guildford with a ‘must win’ attitude.
Guildford were punished early by referee Mike Hicks as Ian Watters was sent to the box just forty-one seconds into play on a slashing call. Dundee took the early chance to get themselves ahead, Justin Fox fired the puck into the net, ten seconds into their man advantage giving the road team the lead inside the opening minute. However ex-Star Mikael Lidhammar tied the game at 11:28.
The Flames top scoring defenceman, Carl Ackered put his side ahead on the powerplay at 18:26 after Dundee’s Emerson Hrynyk was sent to the box on a tripping at 18:14. Omar Pacha wasted no time in getting his team level, the Stars head coach bagged his second goal against the Flames this weekend at 18:59.
The first period ended and after a long delay due to a fault in the ice and the game was abandoned. The ice next to the players benches was of poor quality and not deemed fit for play.
The game outcome or replay date is yet to be determined and if the game will be played at Spectrum Arena is another question that is yet to be answered.
There was a one hour gap between the announcement of the first period ending and the announcement that the match had been abandoned.
A statement from Guildford Flames, Spectrum Arena or the Elite League is expected within the next few days.
